Credit Unions are unique financial institutions. You, the member, are owners of the Credit Union. The money you put into your Credit Union represents an equity interest. It is more like buying a stock than making a deposit. That is why “Credit Union” refers to the returns you earn on your accounts as dividends instead of interest.
The Credit Union has been in existence since 1959 and is a state chartered credit union that is federally insured up to $250,000.00 by NCUA (National Credit Union Administration), a federal agency similar to the FDIC.
